Teachers' Tips

Lesson Plan 2 - I am learning about MiWorld in 50 Years

Submarine!

Objective:
Pupils can begin to explore and imagine how their world will look in the next 50 years.

One
Use the information contained in the 'Here's MiWorld - Inspiring Facts' poster to prompt pupils to imagine and discuss the feats and initiatives that they will make in the years to come. Use the poster to help children link achievements made in the past to those that can be made in the future.

Two
The reproducible 'Here's MiWorld in 50 Years' worksheet (Worksheet 2) will encourage pupils to use their creative skills and imagination to predict what they think their world will be like in 50 years' time.

Three
Invite pupils to write a diary entry for someone living in 50 years time in the year 2053.

Four
Using the reproducible 'Here's MiDream Future' worksheet (Worksheet 3), invite pupils to write an essay / poem about how they imagine the world will be in 50 years' time.

Five
Invite pupils to examine their world's environment today and identify methods and actions, e.g. recycling, planting, etc., to improve the environment for MiWorld in 50 Years.

Extension Activities:

  1. Make a class time capsule and include items selected by the pupils. Then bury the time capsule with a letter signed by each child explaining why they chose what they included in the capsule. Encourage pupils to record this event by drawings, models, or by video.
  2. Encourage pupils to explore their imaginative skills and draw a picture or create a model of the classroom / house as they believe it will be 50 years into the future. Then invite pupils to write a report on their picture / model, describing the changes that will take place in the next 50 years.
  3. Encourage Oral Language Development through holding a debate where pupils talk for 1 minute on 'If I Had 3 Wishes For The World In 50 Years'.
